Lumber
Genuine Mahogany Lumber (Swietenia macrophylla) = $4.25 – 5/4″ and 6/4″
African Mahogany = $3.25
Swietenia macrophylla: This is the mahogany that grows throughout mainland Central and South America. The most common name for this species is Honduras/Honduran mahogany, but it is also given names by its country of origin, such as Nicaraguan, Mexican, etc. Swietenia macrophylla tends to be slightly more orange than Swietenai mahogoni, but the color and density are affected by the specific conditions in the area of growth, so there are no absolutes.
Khaya spp.: The Khaya species sold as African mahogany ARE part of the mahogany family, but are separate from the Swietenia species of the Americas. The Khaya species tend to be lighter in color, generally more of a salmon/pink in tint than the Swietenia species, but the color and density are affected by the specific conditions in the area of growth, so there are no absolutes.
Lumber Testimonials
Hi Mark,
I just wanted to let you know that the mahogany I have purchased from you( last week was my third load), works out great for my contract furniture business. The price is the best that I could find anyplace thus far. I am sure I will be back for more, as my needs continue. Thanks for all your assistance, S L
“i just purchased some beautiful pattern grade mahogany from Mark. You won’t be able to find this nice of product for his price anywhere. This stuff is a dream to work with. Also check out his Nakashima style slabs that he’s got. I recommend doing business with Mark he’s an honest guy.” – Eric
