Ipe (pronounced e-pay) Decking:
is a hardwood flooring and frequently goes by various names… or is grouped with similar exotic hardwoods: Cambera, Ipe decking, Brazilian walnut flooring, greenheart wood, Ironwood™, and Pau Lope™ to name a few. Often referred to as one of the hardest woods known to man, Ipe will outlast most all other decking products on the market. It’s rich and warm appearance is arguably the most attractive decking that exists.
Most of this hardwood flooring grows in South America and it is noted for extreme density and hardness (actually sinks in water). Ipe as a deck wood is five times harder than pressure treated yellow southern pine Ipe decking carries the highest rating against rot and insects (termites). Ipe deck wood exceeds the Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for slip resistance when wet.
Ipe as a deck wood carries the highest rating for fire resistance. Ipe is so durable that, left untreated, it will last over 40 years, and up to 100 years if deck oil is applied. Ipe hardwood decks typically have a deep, rich brown luster with some pieces displaying a golden hue giving the wood beauty and character. Conclusion: There is no other natural material that will outlast or look as beautiful as Ipe deck wood. Ipe hardwood decks will remain smooth and splinter free as long as you own your deck! Ipe deck wood provides the beauty of wood without the hassles of the high maintenance pressure treated decking. Ipe decking is beauty in wood… and extremely low maintenance.

Description: Fresh heartwood is a reddish-brown or purplish-brown with light yellowish-brown or purplish streaks; upon exposure it gradually becomes uniform light-brown or yellowish-brown
Mechanical Properties: Janka hardness 2,200 lb. for green material and 3,540 lb. at 12% moisture content. Shrinkage from green to oven dry: radial 5.0%, tangential 7.6%, volumetric 12.0%
Working Properties: The wood is difficult to saw and bore; where severely interlocked grain is not present, the wood planes to a smooth surface. Because of high density and oily nature, the wood glues poorly.
Durability: The timbers have a reputation for being very durable. Laboratory tests also show the heartwood to be very durable in resistance to both brown-rot and white-rot fungi. The wood has excellent weathering possibilities.

Testimonials:
Mark,
I just wanted to send you a quick note to let you know that the IPE decking arrived! Thank you so much for helping me and answering all of my question. I’m really pleased in the quality of the wood, and of course the price! Thanks again for all you help, and best of luck.
Regards,
Jason
Hey Mark –The quality of wood was fantastic and exactly as described-I purchased the Brazilian Redwood T&G for front porch and plan to purchase in future—I love a hasslefree, trustworthy supplier in my business and to know I can count on that long distance service from you guy s-—Alan-Durham NC
Mark,
Just wanted to thank you again for a great purchasing experience. My wife had a great time rummaging through the warehouses and she made it a point to say we needed to get back up there for any future projects we take on around the house. I went up there after doing my research and from most suppliers I would have paid 50% more and that’s figuring in a 500ft minimum for most sources. There’s no arguing that you have probably the best deals on exotic hardwood decking around. As a bonus my wife loves the new mat she picked up for the front door and couldn’t help but talk about how much she saved over having bought a similar mat from World Market. |
